Award-Winning South African Rapper Costa Titch Passes Away at Age 28
The Areyeng hit-maker has passed away at age 28 on Saturday the 11th of March 2023 after collapsing on stage during his Ultra South Africa performance in Johannesburg on day two of the electronic music festival held at the Nasrec Expo Centre.
Costa Titch, born Constantinos Tsobanoglou to his Greek father and South African mother, was originally from Nelspruit, Mpumalanga and relocated to Johannesburg after completing his tertiary education in 2014 to pursue his music career. Although Costa started off as a dancer, over time he invested more into his rap, which led to the release of his most well-known and debut album Made In Africa (2020), where he featured the likes of Rouge, Boity, Sjava, 25K, the late AKA, Riky Rick and others. In 2021 Costa released his second album You’re Welcome, and in the same year dropped a single with Durban’s very own DJ Wobbly titled Yebo Malume alongside Skhindi, Celestial Mic, Dando and Pdogg Amazing. In 2022 Costa went on to release his last and final album Mr Big Flexa.
Costa Titch had recently made headlines after bringing Senegalese-American singer and record producer Akon out at his performance at this year’s Cotton Fest on February 4th, and further announcing his co-sign to the Akon City developer. Fans are still in disbelief after holding high hopes for Costa and his career, just a few weeks after he won the Viewers’ Choice Award at the Soundcity MVP Awards which took place in Lagos, Nigeria and the release of his Big Flexa remix featuring Akon.
The cause Costa Titch’s death is unknown. We wish his family, loved ones, collaborators and fans our sincere condolences.
